Britney Spears Files for Divorce

Her second child was born less than two months ago.

And you idiots think that the only families worth protecting look like hers?

If you haven’t already done so, vote today. And please, vote to protect my family.

If you have a respectful disagreement, I’m willing to hear it. Cowardly anonymous comments will be deleted posthaste.

  1. Hi Art-Sweet,

I’m not a fan of Britney Spears, and am an even lesser fan of her husband. But I just wanted to comment to say that I filed for divorce when my son was two months old. At that point, it was the best choice for both my son and me. I always wondered why people couldn’t hold their marriages together longer until it happened to me. Maybe it’s just the right thing for her to do at the right time. (Or maybe it’s just a sensitive issue for me.)

I totally support ALL families, and any two people who love each other, by the way.

    And I voted!

  2. You know, A-S….. I couldn’t agree with you more! I often wonder how people can talk about the “sanctity of marriage” being effected by same-sex marriages. Really?? I keep thinking something about ENDLESS DIVORCES would effect the sanctity of marriage. I’m not advocating the end of divorce (I, for one, have one under my belt as does my current spouse). My only point being that WHO gets married has nothing to do with whether or not the “institution of marriage” is sanctified. The bottom line is that it is either a legal thing or a spiritual thing. If it’s spiritual, then it’s up to each group as to who gets the marriage license. If it’s a legal thing, then open it to anyone who wants to be a part of it. But that’s just MY opinion…. I could be wrong. And based on my voting record, I must be. A sure fire way to loose an election is to have me vote for you….. but I promise to spend my life voting to protect your family. Hate to sound corny, but if any family is in jeopardy, I feel all of our families are in jeopardy.

    • Den vil helt sikkert være en stor hjælp under aftensmaden, hvor lillesøster under hele mÃ¥ltidet fascineret stirrer pÃ¥ sin spisende 2-Ã¥rige storebror. SÃ¥ kunne vi mÃ¥ske slippe for at have hende siddende pÃ¥ skødet under en stor del af mÃe0dit¥t&#823l;

  3. If a heterosexual couple feels threatened by the idea of gay marriage, their marriage is very weak indeed.

  4. I’m watching the marriage amendment returns in VA with a heavy heart. I can’t believe I live amongst these people.

  5. Stella,

You’re absolutely right, and the only reason that I’m not editing my post is that then your comment wouldn’t make any sense and people wouldn’t know what an insensitive idiot I am 😉

  6. Wow. Her second divorce in three years. That’s pretty freaking impressive. Really. And how do queers getting hitched impede the sanctity of marriage?

    • I feel so much happier now I unasertdnd all this. Thanks!

  7. i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again: i blame all the attacks on the sanctity of marriage on my heterosexual friends that are living in sin. heh.

  8. Britney. Oh, Britney.

Art-Sweet, stay off those nasty Focus on the Family pages. They can give a person nightmares.

(I voted. Of course I voted.)

  9. I think of the anti-gay marriage sentiment every time I look at Britney. My thoughts started with her 55 hour marriage that she drunkenly entered in Vegas. Yeah, the gays can’t be trusted to respect the sanctity of marriage.

Its so insulting, annoying, frustrating; it makes me want to move to Canada.

    • Heck of a job there, it abeutolsly helps me out.

  10. Art-Sweet-

I’m following the returns this evening online.

And, my God– it looks like the marriage ban is gonna pass here in Wisconsin.

I can’t believe it. I just cannot believe it.

What is wrong with these people? What the hell are they afraid of?

    This is insane.

  11. Thanks for the reminder to vote – I already did and I reminded several people during the day to do the same.

I’m not sure what the amendment that you’re talking about is – I live in Massachusetts.

I will say that I’m a committed Christian and I believe in marriage, but I think that committed relationships between two people (of any gender) should be legally supported.

Right now, without the ability the marry most partners have no rights. That is completely and absolutely wrong.

Therefore there are two choices: allow some form of legal partnership with full rights (health, inheritance, etc.); or, allow marriage between any two committed adults.

I’ve been married for over 12 years now – dating for over 15 years. Part of the secret for me (if that’s what it is) is that I thank God every day for my wonderful, supportive, and loving wife.

I wish you the very best of luck on the adoption – as the dad of three adoptive children, I can’t tell you what a blessing this is.

  12. I don’t think anyone expected Britney’s marriage to last. (At least I didn’t.) But real people, that’s a different story. I totally don’t understand why people are afraid of gay marriage. I think it’s a very personal decision who one falls in love with and marries. Why do some people feel the need to argue with who you fall in love with? That’s the part that always disturbs me. It’s no more my business that you love another woman, than it is your business who I choose to love.

And politicans who don’t know me, they definitely get no vote on who I choose to love!

I’m fighting for your right to form your family however, and with whomever, you choose. And yes, I vote.

  13. Amen, Art-Sweet. I don’t get it either.

    • I love how everyone has just lost all frghkeintine. Anyone with a spec of intelligence would know that this phone is full of old technology. But why do you defend it and think it’s superior? Simply because they tell you it is through advertising. Most people have no technical reason they prefer iphone but have never tried anything else. They spend their time downing other phones and think they have the best. Just like our political parties, you believe whatever you are told.

    • Hahaha.. SÃ… bra!Her dukker det ogsÃ¥ opp mye "nytt" som har ligget i skapet siden "leeenge siden…" hihi 😉

  14. The point of the post was to show that male/female relationships aren’t any more “ideal” than same sex relationships. Am I wrong?

I think this country relies too much on deciding what is moral based on what the Bible dictates what is moral. It’s fine for individual citizens to choose religion as their guide in how they lead their lives, but to blanket religion over everyone is wrong.

I’ve had about enough of religion dictating how everyone should live. I’m not against religion even though I’m not religious. I just don’t think it should be the moral determiner of our government.

  15. Love makes a family.

The fact that BS’s divorce is even “news” is a sad reflection on our society (or our media at least). There are more important things happening in the world, let’s report those.

    Good Luck with your adoption!

  16. yah well what can i say but ditto!

  17. sigh. I was REALLY holding out for Britney to be a role model for my child, who is a child out of wedlock, and may end up with broke parents, becuse they have to pay a lawyer gazillions of dollars to get the SAME rights that Brittney got for $36 bucks (3 times) down at town hall…

Oh Britney, you let me down, you let me down.

  18. Well said! I can’t believe the ban here in AZ didn’t pass- I think it was more because of the amount of unmarried snowbirds we have living here, as opposed to support of gay marriage, sadly.

I, too am a committed Christian and believe in equal rights for ALL.

  19. Yeah. *pukes*

  20. I just went on the Focus on the Family website. Scary Shit. These people are nuts and make us, okay me- sometimes feel inferior. I am so tired of the politics of hate. Peace.

  21. What, exactly, is so sacred about marriage? It’s a legal and emotional commitment. Maybe it’s because I have no faith whatsoever, but I don’t get this whole “destroy the sanctity of marriage” line.

My husband and I were married by a JP. Does that make our marriage somehow less because we weren’t sanctified by a religious official?

Oh, this whole topic gets me so pissed off that I can’t even think straight (hah! Sorry.) or construct a coherent argument. I’m just going to sit over here and splutter at the stupidity of humanity in general and the hypocrisy of certain individuals who shall remain nameless *cough* Haggert *cough*

    Gah.

  22. Hey, I didn’t even know Britney was divorcing. Thanks for catching me up on the celeb news!

My sis and her partner used to live in CO Springs, where Focus on the Fam is based. Yeah, it was a really great place for two gals in love to dwell. Too bad they had to relocate. I know they miss it like the dickens.

  23. I voted against the Virginia amendment. I am so, so upset that it passed.

  25. Check that off the list of things I was consufed about.
